The Compton Trafficbox Project: Art, Community, and Wellness in Harmony
We're thrilled to launch the Compton Traffic Box Project, a cornerstone of the Compton Memory Map, in partnership with Mayor Emma Sharif and local artists. This initiative breathes life into our streets by transforming ordinary traffic lightboxes into vibrant art installations. Each lightbox tells a story of Compton's heritage, diversity, and aspirations while offering educational resources through QR codes linked to a digital library.
π¨ Meet our inaugural artists:
β’ Mel Depaz: Showcasing Compton's landmarks and urban landscapes.
β’ Anthony Pittman: Celebrating heritage with influences from Catholic Baroque art and Black culture.
β’ Cindy Macias: Amplifying youth voices with whimsical, dreamlike imagery.
π How You Can Join:
Adopt a Traffic Box! By supporting local artists, you're enhancing our city's beauty and inspiring pride in our community. Adopters will receive recognition on our platforms and participate in special milestone events.
π Compton is becoming an outdoor gallery, one lightbox at a time. Together, we are fostering community wellness and transforming public spaces into hubs of creativity and connection.
