OUR MISSION

The Compton Arts Project centers art as a catalyst to build stronger communities, support local artists, and energize the tourism economy in Compton and nearby communities.

We believe in the transformative power of ART!

  • The Compton Arts Project is working with Compton stakeholders to develop a Cultural Arts District to celebrate art, artists, and culture and to energize the creative and tourism economy throughout the Compton Community Ecosystem, including nearby incorporated areas and the region.

  • The Compton Arts Project is seeking partners to realize its vision of developing a Senior Living Arts Community that will build modern, affordable housing especially for our elders who have contributed so much to society through their art and culture. The project is slated for Phase Two and will be located withing the Cultural Arts District boundaries.

Exploring The Healing Power of Art 

  • Raising awareness.

    Arts can be used to raise awareness about community issues and bring people together around a common goal.

  • Art is therapy: Healing mental health.

    Art can help treat mental health issues like depression, trauma, and dementia. It can also help process difficult emotions during times of emergency or challenging events. Art therapy can significantly reduce depression in nine studies and show a strong decrease in anxiety in seven studies.

  • Improving quality of life.

    Art can help decrease one's perception of pain, improve quality of life, and promote holistic wellness. Art can evoke empathy and foster a sense of connection between individuals and their neighbors, building a sense of community and belonging.

  • Connecting with others.

    Art can help bring us into the community with one another. When in front of an artwork, we are connected to the artist and to others who have experienced it. It can bring people together regardless of background.

  • Bringing awareness to social issues.

    Art can bring awareness to social issues and foster a sense of acceptance. Art can help people understand the dangers the planet faces and promote its conservation. For example, art can communicate complex climate science and challenges through visual tales. Museum exhibitions can also help raise public awareness about the dangers of climate change.
